I'm looking into spawnprotection after the discussion with the NBS people. Basically I heartily disagree that spawnkilling is fine, but I do agree that perhaps the spawner should not be allowed to shoot someone while being protected.
Now I got hinted at another spawn protector. This one works with 'guard mode' - if you spawn and don't shoot or switch guns you are invulnerable for -X- seconds, say 5. If you shoot you are immediately vulnerable.
Would that be better?
Or do you want a spawnprotect that just lasts 2 seconds for no shooting and no being shot?

I don't know about other people, but sometimes when my conection gets slow, it takes a few secs to respawn and i usually press the mouse a coupe of times meanwhile, so the first thing I do when I'm finally respawned I shoot. Therefore I think it would be better not to be able to shoot or be shot for 2 secs...

yep ,
most ppl are shooting after respawn although it sounds fair
this one would probably cause to much trouble.
as you know the average respawn-time ppl need for
getting any orientation is above 2 seconds mostly
is there a possibility to set it a little bit higher?

If I can have an opinion thats count, then I think 2 seconds is a good and fair time.
Shaitan is right, when he say, that the most shoot at respawn. And giving more time is not really fair for the other Players. When you have a good Place to play and someone respawn in your near, you have no chance to alive when you don't running away or jump around. I have played on the fraggolonia server and it's not very funny when you respawn and get a headshot in this second . Thanks the Lord, not a lot of the Players are Spawnkillers.

I think I'm going to have to agree--while I do think the first idea is cool (and could be a good tactical idea) it would probably me more practical to have the 2 second guy. That's just long enough to get out of a spawnkiller's sights and have a good fighting chance.

sorry ant didnt get it.
anyways i thought about 3-4 seconds cuz i know some places
for example at snipertown you wont made it to escape in that short time
but generally i agree with 2nd one

Yes, thats true, but in this very large maps is the "chance" to respawn in the near of an other player very small and you have 2 s to find your opponents, otherwise the most maps are smaller and then is the 2 s deal justice, isn't it?

Well I think like nix said the first one is a bad idea, I know sometimes I die while firing, and then right when I spawn it is a reflex shot, which would defeat the purpose of spawnprotect.
Then as for the 2 second one, how would I know when the exact moment of the 2 seconds is up? The person watching me though however would know and then see and be able to kill me right when I turned visible. I think this is a disadvantage on the spawners part, and is basically no better than spawnkilling. And I can see this being taken advantage of too.
The current one we use works fine and no OCA member or regular players seems to mind very much. Sure ppl comment but it isnt an huge controversy. I mean I might get killed by someone who spawned and is invulnerable, and they kill me twice a max of 3 times in one game. I can live with that.
Dont change our spawnprotect punt, it works fine, these two new ones are going to cause trouble.

no ant it isn't cause we use it to prevent player from beeing spawnkilled
and you dont respawn somewhere at a big map near a opponent player!!!
there are a few respawnplaces and most of the player know them
very well.when i said :"i didnt get it " i meant :

you talked about having no chance if a player
respawns near to you with a higher protection-time
thats not true !cause we are talking about a spawnprotection
which prevents respawning ppl from beeing shot-like at fragga-
and it prevents ppl near the respawning player to be shot by them.
so why do you think it would be worse if they get more time to
get any orientation???
They cant shoot you and you cant shoot them,simply fair i guess
so if someone respawns next to you,you should think about changing
your "good place to play"cause it isnt very cool to hang around the respawnplaces and they never change! thats the justice!
i agree with zed eavy-spawnprotect is a cool mod
i can deal with it and most of our players too
you simply get used to it.the only reason to change it would be
anotherone which would delete the ability to shoot other player
while beeing invulnerable but dont cause other problems same time
so dont change if there isnt any spawnprotect-mod available which
fits us.we could try out some at oca to get a feeling for example
to be sure it wouldnt become worse

I agree with zed&nix, if a new spawnprotect mod would bring instability then don't change it, i think the curent one rulz... but if you ask me 2 secs are just enough of invulnerability regardless of the map. i think making the invulnerability period shorter would prevent many players from atacking while invulnerable, but let you the chance to escape spawnkillers.
Ant, whenever you see a good player transparent, do what i do RUN or hide until he is vulnerable an then... you now what to do: Recycle them!

@nix - too, yeah your right with your arguments and I understand them (Oh god, hope my english isn't too funny for you), I can life with 3 or 4 seconds, I would only think 2s are better. I think that the OCA Server is the best server for playing my style. I'm just playing UT in the net since April this year, so a lot of other players and the OCA Members can judges it better than me. Thats why I'd writing "if my opinion count"

BTW Ant I only play UT since April, but I don't think that one has a better judgement in this kind of matter just because he is "older" in UT.

Actually the one I have now gives you X seconds of unconditional protection (like Eavy, the one we use now) and Y seconds of protection extra if you don't actually fire..
So I would say 1 second of unconditional protection (if you fire or no) and 3 if you don't fire, sounds fair to me. That way both the accidental fire-on-spawn thing is gone, and there's some fairness in you not hurting others if you just respawned.
Or not much, anyway.

I think that 1sec isnt enough, I have reflex shoot nearly after all respawns, so I will be still protected only 1s....
