Well, Ive reenabled stats as you guys prolly noticed, however now UT exhibits new and interesting ways to crash. Luckily it doesn't stop broadcasting to the server browser, that totally sucked, but somehow, about once a day it will now stop and crash just after a game is finished (and just before mapvote starts, but it isnt mapvote's fault)

Now I have created a script that should notice the server has crashed within 2 minutes and restart the damn thing but well.. Murphy's law dictates the crash will be at the busiest point of the day.

So I ask you:

Do you want more stability - server ran fine without stats
Or do you want stats and you can deal with the 1 crash a day?

(do keep in mind that right now -you- guys know what gives, but only a very small % of players reads the forums regularly so most people will just get annoyed.)

Well i had crash yesterday twice and when i looked clock it was just when stats are updated (i guess... 11.00 and 14.00) ,the game just stopped and freezed.So i watched myself (from above..) to stand there and get killed.
Who needs those stats anyway,everyone knows how they are playing in the end.Have to say,i read those too but i dont thing they are important ...
I say: stable server is more important. Exclamation

Well the stats are updated at the strike of the clock, yes, but the crashes happen (occasionally) right after the current map ends.

It is possible that you notice lag while the stats are updated (you shouldn't actually, system does it in the background), but things won't crash...

I kinda like the stats.....they remind me of how much I really need to improve my game Laughing LOOOL. That said, I think if there is a stability issue that is directly linked to the stats....then for me stability rules! IMO anyhow Wink
Whatever you decide to do for the best, I think it would be good to see how they go for a good while longer yet!! Cool

well i agree with what everyone here has said, i like the stats, so i can see in numbers how bad im doing, but id rather have no stats and somewhere cool to play than to loose it all!

The problem Im facting here is that its a combination of it all.

I mean if the stats would fuck up the server so much that it would (like it did before) stop reporting the game to the master browser after 2-3 minutes playtime its totally unacceptable. But here the impact is less severe..

say max 2x2 minutes downtime a -day-. (if my scripts work properly, I admit)

Sooooo Im inclined to keep the stats on regardless, but, if your reactions in this topic are so adamantly against stats and for extra stability then I can be convinced Smile Please keep opinions coming.

And through the UT admin email list I received a suggestion I haven't tried yet. (trying now).. let's see if it works..... keep your fingers crossed, maybe this fixes it completely.

Puntloos,

How many people actually look at the stats regularly? I know 2 x 2 minutes downtime a day doesn't sound like much but if there were 30 people on the server when it crashed, that's 60 people who go away with the impression that the OCA server is unstable. I think stability is important - maybe thats because I'm not bothered about the stats (if you had seen me play, you would know why :LOL:).

So, I think stability.

My 2c (for what it's) worth.

Well actually the suggestion of the email list worked. Stats work (afaik) and no crashes. Only difference is that stats dont get updated immediately but only at the end of the hour.

(Actually I had 2 crashes in a row yesterday.. but that seemed to be a freak occurrance or a DOS attack or something. It was mid-game so definately unrelated to stats. Server is stable again since the 2nd restart)

White_Tiger is number 1 but last played on the 9th

Stats work (though I never fully trusted AEStats I must admit)

The reason WT is #1 is simply because he played with the best ratio of # frags - # times killed. The stats now range over 18 days...

Well, ok let me put it a bit more carefully: as far as I can tell stats work. They seem to be updated, and the 'global' page says the last frag counted was today.

nope it doesnt seem to be working Confused
theres no-one from -={SDA}=- there.

say like -={SDA}=-g-function (who is always in the stats)

could this have anything to do with the lag?
or could the multi tdm have anything to do with it?
