Hmm well so far I've checked every map from a thru r and they work. The question I guess is what is 'tolerable' fps-wise. For example Zahltag slows down to a crawl on my system sometimes, same with zeitkindpro. It all kinda depends on where you're looking, doesn't it? If your computer is a 486, don't stand on top of the world and try to aim at something down there
I'm happy to take off a map if you guys think it's too demanding though.

yep true, but what comp u need, then?
i got a xp2200 processor,a gf4 4200+512mb kingston-ram@333mhz
so far i can say i cant play:
DM-from dusktilldawn
DM-pazific
DM-Panzer
DM-Winter
+same to most of those tacticalops or strikeforce-maps
play them with a lot of players makes them nearly unplayable for all
i dont even know all of the new maps but most of them do look very cool
but ...
they dont need to be deleted from server but i dont think many ppl will vote for them if they arent able to play them

You mean like HamsterDance or CastleWars or DuskTillDawn
They still vote for those
wonder if its opengl related

Well of the 3 of us discussing this I have the crappiest computer send me more donations its an athlon xp 1800 with Ge3 and I found all maps to be acceptable on most places. As I said only the sniping spot on the boat map, I forget the name, is unplayable. - but the rest of the map is fine.
I agree that maps shouldn't be 5 fps but my sys doesn't drop below 50 most of the time which is fine..
I do suspect that perhaps you guys are using too many hi-res textures and too high resolution and always anti-aliasing on etc. Try looking into tweaking 3d cards
On the other hand.. I think my system is a bit above par still.. I think we should 'aim' for ghz and ge2 or something, performance wise..
So please, with my pointers in mind, report what maps -overall- slow down too much. A map that plays fine except for one location where you look down on all 43859743985 polys at the same time is acceptable..

Well this baby has XP2000+, GF4Ti420064 and 896MBRAM and these maps are unplayable: (5x = CANT PLAY, 5fps..)
CastleWars
DuskTillDawn (this is outside and 'mainroom')
DM-pacific
DM-Panzer ( NOWHERE TO HIDE!!AAARRGH!!)
DM-Motorpool
HamsterDance
(this Hamster i wonder what causes it,in DMC-server it rolls like dream)
(i'm gonna cry, dont want to update again...)

I turned off high detail actors and detail textures
and it seemed to work one one map.
fps went from <20 to 60-70
map was DM-AngelGate I think
Ill have to try these other maps when im finished work.
btw it happenes to me too with the same maps as ipot
seems like its got nothing to do with hardware specs either

That's kinda the point, you guys are never saying in what insane quality settings you are trying to play
Im doing 1024x768x32, no anti aliasing, openGL I think, not sure, all detail settings default. I didnt add any cool textures (leebe is sending me some actually).
And for example DM-Panzer runs just fine.. that is.. okay I didnt try with 32 players or anything.. how much does that affect gameplay anyway? But detail-wise well sure there are some spots you shouldn't look, but the point is that they are very avoidable!
Of course a game shouldn't consist of avoiding spots you can't be cause it's too low FPS, but just as in Zahltag, if your computer can't handle the FPS, then just go into the close corner fighting...
Anyway this is of course worth discussing.. so where do we strike the balance? Im happy to remove DM-Panzer for example if need be, but what do we 'as a group of players' think is acceptable enough? We can also only put DM-Agugu in it and play there.

...and ofcourse i forgot to add game settings here... (old man - old head )
1024x768x32 and details are low on everything...i use OpenGL cause it's so faster and better lookin' (IMHO)...normally i get about 60-90 fps so when it goes under 10 (or even under 20..) i'm ready to cry...alot...
well,i can always take a break and have a smoke when these maps are wanted...
cu..

Ive got it at 1152x864 same as desktop 32 bit
Ive erm got everything maxed
BUT ive got a Radeon9700 pro an Athlonxp 2200+ and 1GB of DDR333 ram
Surely that should be enough? also UT is on a fast 7200rpm ATA133 hard drive with 30gig free
I use Opengl and get usualy 70-100 fps. On a regular map like deck16 I get about 120fps avg
Yet some maps like those mentioned above I get less than 20
IMO something is included in those maps thats not in the others, but what?

For more FPS improve yours ram performance. Test in Sisoft Sandra 2003.
When i overclocked my GF3, my FSA in UT didnt increase...it was the same. On my old computer with voodoo, overcloking grafic card means more FPS...strange.
When i improve ram settings in BIOS, then FPS raised. Than i overclocked my Athlon thorough FSB and FPS raised some more.
So i raised from avg.95FPS in default settings, to 122FPS in timedemo 1.

Thats a nice increase
Mine is overclocked as far as it will go already, but I think we worked out in another thread that it was related to opengl.
With directd3 you dont get any of these problems.
