A hell of an overclock in fact..

Just got a new CPU and mobo, got an Athlon64 3700+ San Diego (1MB cache) because it seemed a bargain at only £49 and I had a 2800+ before - got a new mobo, an Epox 9NDA3+ - though I had to buy it 2nd hand because you couldnt get them anymore, I emailed Epox and the guy that answered said they dont make them anymore, but he had one for sale if I wanted Smile only €50 (£35), another bargain I thought, came in a couple of days from NL and looked as good as new (he even bundled some promo stuff in there Razz)

when I first tried it, it wouldnt work .. Sad but I narrowed it down to my graphics card (worked with other ones) so I waited a bit, then bought a new graphics card Very Happy an ATI X1950 512mb which is great Smile much better than my other card (which I only had a few months!) and does a decent overclock as well Very Happy from 580mhz to 620mhz core speed and 700(ddr) to 760(ddr) memory speed (total 120mhz) which is very nice considering it was with standard cooling Smile

so I recently set it all up and managed to get it all running well, after a little while, I decided to overclock it

so for a while I had it running at 230fsb (default 200) which is a great clock, gave me a total speed of 2550mhz instead of 2200mhz - a free 15% increase in the processor speed (for reference the FX-60 runs at 2600Mhz)

so tonight I decided to see if I could get anymore out of it..

wow this thing doesnt know when to quit! and only 35°C Shocked the heatsink was only about £10

so 2804mhz is what I am running at now Very Happy a free 27% increase - the top of the range FX-74 runs at 3000Mhz - so thats my target Razz if I break that Ill be posting it Very Happy

not too bad for a £50 cpu Wink

Oh my God! Shocked Hehe nice one LeeBe, but be careful, I hope you have fire-extinguisher somewhere near your computer Very Happy.

Is the difference in speed of CPU visible in normal work? I have 2600+ and I am wondering if its worth of getting stronger CPU for my old SocketA mobo...

Impressive indeed for fifty notes m8. Smile
BUt are you confident that the sensor is reporting the correct temps Lee?
Sounds very cool for so much clock speed. Confused

yep Smile seems to match roughly what it says in the bios and in other apps Smile

got it over 3GHz

Idle temp is around 38/39°C

and ran it through a stress test, seems rock solid stable and under heavy load it maxes at 47°C Very Happy

@Roba - I can tell a difference in some things, like Terragen and Photoshop, but im not sure you can get Socket A CPU's anymore Sad or if you'll get much of an improvement over yours
