This "Microsoft" virus is really annyoing, I am getting 20-30 emails with this virus every day...



When will ppl learn to update their a/v soft....

lol I am virus free, VirusScan is doing good job with killing them They are coming from many stupid ppl who dont know they are infected, but since virus is changing from value to random emails, I cant tell them to clean their PC. A lot of ppl has my email addy, coz I am using same for biz like 4 years... I could write to ISPs, but they wont care... lol its easier to update antivirus regulary

My VirusScan is gone I ve been using McAfee since verion 1.0, but true is that after ver5 every next verion was worse and worse. But I was tolerating their crap slow resources eating user interface based on IE ActiveX, I tolerated bunch of useless tools installed with VS without option to disbale them, I tolerated large memory usage, becouse VS had all features I wanted and was very effective.

But version 8 is really UNUSABLE.

- Completly based on ActiveX menu. Slow, memory eating, unusable
- No options on install, u cant choose what compenents will be installed, you cant even choose install folder!!! As usually it install lot of additional crap....
- Some lame thing called McAfee Security Center is installed together with VS and CAN NOT be uninstalled! is still in memory! and only purpose of this thing is to show you some stupid "security meters" (of course more McAfee apps installed, more green dots in you security level) and access to each McAfee app config windows. Again completly ActiveX. Totally useless, stupid thing, no idea why I should have it in my computer.
- updates only after registration and only thru web interface (u have to login with un/pw)! cant be downloaded from app directly!
- and best of all - they removed ALL background scanning config options, which made VS better than the rest. Only option you have now is on/off!

So that was my last VirusScan . Now I am using F-Prot. Has nice VirusBulletin results, but background scanner has no config options. Yet. They told me new verion which should be out soon will have them. But main reason why I choosed F-Prot is memory usage - less than 2MB! .

I was also thinking about killing ZoneAlarm, coz new version is still asking me for checking updates and this feat cant be disabled (and its very annoying since its asking several times a day). Any tips for good firewall with features equivalent to ZoneAlarm? Kerio seems to be cool, but has same memory usage as ZA (15MB) and from what I saw in forums, there a lot of bugs. I.e. current version leaves one port open and you cant do anything with it. Sygate looks cool, but dunno how much memory it eats and if it has program control like ZA does....

I use McAfee firewall. Ive just 'downgraded' to a legal version and it isnt that good

I prefer Sygate, Kerio isnt bad but had a few bugs, kept crashing with xp

I use sygate, I dont think it uses much memory at all.

I have no complaints with it. It's been good.

Using Norton2002 (updates from webpage,automation can kiss my **s),works fine,memory usage 2204kb.
ZoneAlarm 3.7PRO, it has option of no updates...

btw - that McAfee sounded like real piece of s**t...

Yeah it is POS. Its a shame, coz VirusScan was always one of the best. They killed great product with huge history .

Yeah older ZAs had option to disble it, but in the latest one (4.5.something) it cant be disbaled...and I already upgraded. I ll give a try to that Sygate.
