Whoa. I've tweaked one setting in UT and suddenly the CPU load it takes is down at least 40%.. niice! This shouldn't affect (or at least not negatively affect) gameplay, its just a cache setting.. I've improved cache from 8 to 256MB
The other setting does change network settings, please let me know if you suddenly find UT running much better or much worse, ping-wise but also pink-spike-wise!

ok ive been checking out the server since the changes...i thought it might have been one day...but ive given it enough time to realize that at least in my case....server is getting a bit unplayable as far as it being laggy and i am getting ping spikes most are up to 500 id say maybe once every 3-5 minutes and the ocassionaly 1000+ every 10-15 minutes. As for jaggy who has a better computer than me...she says its pretty unplayable..

OK i now have changed the speed of the OCA server to the NetTickRate 300 setting, SNP is still at 30.
If you have bad lag, go to the other server and tell me which one feels better!

Heh ok we'll just do this by trial and error.. that is if there is any difference at all. If this is an improvement, we change SNP to that, and raise OCA to 3000 and see if that helps
Do note though that the fairest way to measure this is to check oca and snp when they have about the same # of players on. perhaps a tall order but a more loaded server is slower than an unloaded one.

say well leebe said that OCA server feels much better than SNP for him, so I've now set SNP to 300 (the value OCA was) and raised OCA even more, to 3000.
Let me know if things are clearly getting better or worse for you.

Im still testing it cuz around the same time you did that I put in a new .dll file for UT that made a huge difference so I dont want to attribute changes for each that dont correspond to each other

Yeah THAT .dll. Zed was the one who found it and we both put it in and it made a huge difference. That specific .dll is for those who use Direct3D (chances are if you are using ATI, NVIDIA, this is you but you can check in your preferences under the video tab). I think there might be some other .dlls for different ones but I dont know. The .dll in my case got rid off an annoying pausing every 20-30 seconds and it smoothed out a bit. It use to run extremely jerky and skippy and it minimized that.

But it doesn't improve lag issues, does it?
Or were you mistaking these issues for lag problems?
I keep saying that as a rule of thumb, 200ms is fine (but the comfortable limit) and anything above 250 you will start to notice. You guys (K@rr and Jag anyway) were usually below 200 I believe so I was wondering about that.

No punt it didnt do anything for the lag. It was purely for the way it affects the end user.
As for lag, i did find a few things that helped when i made a server. I know the unreal log files grew fairly fast, and emptying these files or transfering them over (if you want to keep them) improved gameplay.
There were a few files I sifted through to that seemed to grow fast, you could check those?

Punt the ping spikes have improved a bit...for whatever reason though...my ping is still all over the place. I dont remember it jumping around like that even when it is just 1 or 2 of us in the server. Im not getting huge ping spikes like I was getting but out of no where I am still jumping up to the 400s even when I am the only one using my DSL. Dont know if it is something that can be fixed. There is still something that doesnt look right but I havent figured it out yet...just when I play something doesnt seem right.
