well, thought 'Uncle Sam' was banned but seems like he still
cheat his way through the OCA server. below is a quote from
one of our member who play tis mornin'.
personally i still saw him still hang around in oca server and
he seems to be really 'GOOD'.

How do I know?
Simple, I built a hiding place into one of my maps. It's in a place where you can't snipe anybody, so no advantage except for a little breathing space. Both of these players found me quite quickly and far too easily
p.s. Don't bother looking for it in UED, I removed those brushes. |

Ok, a quick reply cos its late and im tired.
First Uncle_Sam, I believe him when he says it was his brother, we know that Unreality uses a different computer, just by him connecting, we can tell the difference between the two.
Uncle_Sam is not a bad player, but hes not too good. I have speced him a lot and I think hes clean.
ChatLog (-={SDA}=-Salty-Dog): Nice radar
ChatLog: TDM-Deck16][ has won.
ChatLog (Ygfcm): pff
The other one (above) I can vouch for. Ygfcm was created when I hit the keyboard.....I usually look around for a name but there was nothing caught my eye this time, so I went for a new aproach.
Salty-Dog might be a good mapper, but that doesnt mean he can tell who cheats.
I'd like to know where he was hiding if I saw him so easy, it mustnt be a very good hiding place.
If it was an SDA map I dont think I shot him, I havent really played any SDA maps.

C'mon guys I think Salty had a point and I dont think he meant to start any thing by saying "Nice Radar" .....
I think this should clear it up.....

When I see a player locate me in a hiding place that should be a totally invisible to anyone who does not know of it's location, then yes I do believe that that person has some form of tracking device. Furthermore I don't have to be a good, bad or indifferent mapper to suspect cheating in this particular case

Dear OCA
I'm not a skilled UT player, I don't have to be, others in SDA are the true soldiers, I'm just a little mapper. This means that I rarely visit your server at times when it's full of 'UT Gods', preferring to play there in the early morning where I generally encounter a few like minded souls.
So I am starting to get an idea of what is normal and what is not. It also means that I play under my normal nick and have no need to hide behind any other 'nom de geurre'.
I have no axe to grind and no desire to start an argumentative / flame war. Therefore I kindly ask your forebearance in making this somewhat long post, describing the situation that occurred early on the morning of 06/09/2003.
I joined the server and started to play against the bots. BTW why is it that sometimes I need maybe 5 or 6 shots to kill a stationary bot? In this, case he had no obvious shieldbelt glow and I saw every hit make a blood spurt. Have I been issued with low grade ammo? LOL
To continue. After a while, some of the early morning regulars joined and we had some good fights on various maps. No problem there.
Later, a few (unknown to me) other players joined and things started to go a little wrong. I'm used to being killed many times, so that normally causes no concern, lets face it, it's hardly a noteworthy achievement to beat me. I believe that it was other players first started voicing suspicions about the behaviour of a couple of recently joined players. As a check, I managed to persuade my teammates to pick a certain map of mine.
During the construction and testing of this map I had built in a little 'rest room'. It had no purpose other than to allow me to start gameplay testing with the bots set to godlike. If things got a bit hot for me, I could always escape there for a respite. It had a one way transparent texture on a brush that was sufficient to stop any user firing from from that room. In simple words a hidden, bulletproof, viewing gallery. It could only be reached by a code-trigger controlled invisible teleporter. I left it in on a whim, but carefully deleted the source components of that part of the map after I compiled it for public release. Some mappers do that with their whole map to avoid plagiarism. I don't, but I was not going to leave the source code of that small area open to investigation by any user of UED looking for 'an edge'. When I saw certain players looking straight up at my 'hidy hole', firing shots at it and trying to xloc into it (because they were unaware of the correct entry procedure), I became convinced that they were employing some form of tracker / locator. Call it radar for want of a better adjective. In this circumstance I do not believe that being a 'good mapper' is a prerequisite to judging something was rather amiss!
I did not say anything but continued to play. We progressed on to a few more maps and more and more others were voicing their doubts.
At this point, 'Ygfcm' joined the game. He / She / It, seemed a more than competant player but gave no reason to suspect foul play in the manner of the other two. In fact one of them left the server before 'Ygfcm' joined.
After one or two more maps, I quit the server in disgust, giving vent to my feelings by the comment 'Nice Radar' . I did make a small post about it in our forums but took no further action or any other thought on the matter.
Later the same day, I revisited my post and discovered that 9X had cut and pasted some of my words into a post he made on your forum (in this thread).
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but that post seems to have lit a squib under LeeBee's tail.
At no point in the game do I recall ever directly or indirectly accusing 'Ygfcm' of using a radar. In fact I never made any specific reference to any player nick concerning my feelings. If I did and I forgot that I had, please search your server log and show me the error of my ways.
So why do I detect a sense of someone going on the defensive ???
TY for taking the time to read this post
Salty.

i was drivin' at the 'uncle sam' subject and nuthin' else.
cos both dmc maddy(http://www.dmc-ut.nl/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=384;start=0#msg7986) and lee
thinks that 'uncle' is 'cheat free' and i 'believed' them.

Hm how much ppl share Uncle_Sam's IP addy? Mr.Twister, who are you? Your IP is same as Uncle_Sam's. Also what you meant by "anymore"?
Anyway I believe there is no public cheat working with current protection we have.
BTW SaltyDog, if you were shooting from your hideout, than its easy to see you - bullets falling down, light flashes....

Roba's right about the hideout thing, even the sound of jumping can give you away.
Baiter I dont know how that clears anything up either
SaltyDog Ive got no 'squibs' whatever the hell that is and I meant what I said about being a good mapper, I remember looking at some of your maps before you were in SDA (before they existed). Unless it was another SaltyDog
I get called a cheat everyday and im used to it.
Sorry if my post came across a bit harsh, it wasnt intended. It was late and I was tired.
Roba's right as well when he says 'there is no public cheat working with current protection we have.'

Roba, LeeBee.
Thanks for your reappraisal of my position
Let me just stress that I was in what was a hidden, bulletproof, one way transparent, box. That means I could not shoot at anybody even if I had wanted to be lame.
I deliberately revealed it's existence and purpose so that players would know that I had no hidden agenda.
Thankyou all OCA for allowing me to make that posting in my defence.
BTW. if ever you encounter a 'SaltyDog' playing on your server and he is just totally cleaning up, it sure as hell won't be this little doggy. I'm too old and slow of reaction to ever make a worthwhile opponent
I just enjoy making my strange kind of maps for others to enjoy.
Regards
Salty

Wow interesting argument..
Just one question:
The story of Salty sortof makes sense (not that I really understand the mapping details) but if that's true, does this mean that:
a/ Salty just gave his position away somehow (muzzle flash, jumping noise, whatever) and didnt realise it
b/ Some bots actually do work on our server afterall?
Plus Id like to know who Salty did or didn't suspect. Was it Uncle_Sam? And which map were we talking about?
