OK I've now implemented a crash checker that checks if unreal seems to be running properly. It uses the log file to see if it is, so -theoretically- its possible that if noone does anything at all for 3 minutes (the check interval), not talk not get relics, not shoot eachother, the server will reset.

Please tell me if reboots-out-of-the-blue happen and when.

Ok well -obviously- it worked at first sight but it went haywire Sad Weird too, it would work fine for 20 minutes and then bang everybody gone.

The bugger of it is that if I try it on the CTF it will most likely work predictably and if I try it on the sniper arena it will annoy players if it fails. I'll try to work something out.

For now it's disabled.

Hi Punt,

tonight we tried to play woof's games on DM server (so Zed had to change it to sniper), but always after few mins server reseted back to regular deatmatch.... but I am not sure if this was crash-checker problem...

Well, that depends. I dont really think so, plus restarts like this are 'ok' - that is the thing that really sucks is if the server is down and noone can play on it. Resets suck too of course but are less urgent.

actually I think it might've been my neet-o-deluxe crash detect script that ain't finished yet Very Happy

If that script detects 'something's wrong' it resets the server.. maybe that happened.

I might have some time to check into it. The new mapvote thing seems to have at least made the # of fatal crashes lower hasn't it?

actually punt I think the crash checker is working but just a little buggy. It did seem to do its job when resetting though. Seems that their is a default config and level that it goes back to. And no real crashes, it would just reset itself, so that is just a kink, no big deal.

Yeah there hasnt been a fatal crash in a while so that is a very good thing.

Yeah I know the part of the checker actually resetting the stuff works fine. The big problem is that unreal is a naughty program and doesn't write logs properly. Sometimes logs don't get written for 3+ minutes, and if that's the case my checker assumes it's dead. (logs contain everything that's going on so unless everybody stands still and noone shoots even a bot the log should grow)
