Many players are often complaining about spawnkilling, usually when their team is losing and other team keeps them with continuous fire in their base. I would like to know what others who play 2k4 thinks about it.
Imho this is NOT spawnkilling, but standard ONS tactic. Spawnkilling is camping on some nonsense place with instant hit weapon (sniper, IG, shock) and killing everyone who respawn on this place. If you get Levi on MassDestruction and keep firing into enemy base, it imho isnt spawnkilling, becouse:
a) there is a big delay between pressing fire and shot - no instant hit weapon
b) keeping enemy in their base when you have their node is logic tactic and it would be nonsense to tell other team to let you go out
c) Levi player is not aiming respawnplace and dont wait for players to respawn, he just "spams" base entrance with Levi ion cannon.
Same with TankWars and tanks shooting respawn area. It is logic that you dont want to let other team leave base - they would go and destroy your node! Tank have 3 secs delay between shots and it again isnt instant hit weapon - so its easy to aviod being hit.
I saw some "spwankilling" on Urban too, but again, I dont think there is anything wrong with it.
What would be spawnkilling - if someone took sniper/lighting rifle (I dont know which other weapon would be useful for real spwnkilling), hid in enemy base or on some other place which isnt directly important to current game development (since players are usually respawn far from current battles) and kept shooting respawned players - thats spawnkilling.
And also dont forget we have 3 secs respawnprotection! How can you be spawnkilled with 3 secs protection? I personally never had problem with it. If I respawn in base which is spammed by enemy fire, I hide behind walls etc and try to run from impact area and find safe way from base - pauses between shots will usually allow you to do it. But if ppl keep running on direct line towards enemy, they are being "spawnkilled".
However, I was thinking to raise protection to 4 secs. That whould be enough for everyone and shouldnt affect gameplay, becouse protection is removed when you shoot and also in ONS, players cant respawn at attacked nodes, so they usually respawn far from current battlefield. Of course when other team is winning so much that you have only power core, you are gonna respawn on battlefield and than protection could give you slight advantage, but it shouldnt be a big problem I think.
Any opinions?

Too true Roba people usually complain when I levi there base but as you said there is intervals and i've escaped from it can't see why other's can't maybe there just angry cause there losing

Yeah, btw spawnprotection is now 4 secs, thats imho enough for every map.

idd wen i first played ut2k4 i found it gay, but now i have learned to cope with the ways of doing things, the best team is the quickest to get as many nodes as possible and hold em. Leviathons are a hazzard to be overcome by air weapons and needs the player to be intelligent to use a rapter and nod a manta or other small crap to take it on with.
I think you haev done right with current spawn protection!

Turn the protection down, 2 seconds is more than enough time to get away.

I'm sorry Roba you know I couldn't resist. (Our vctf server has no spawn protection, we don't play ons anymore though)

lol they would eat me alive . A lot of ppl still complain about that so called "spawnkilling" though... I bet no one there ever saw real spawnkilling, otherwise they couldnt say that someone in Levi is spawnkilling lol.

Lol poor roba imgane being eaten alive*shudders* people do complain a lot about spawnkilling but what people do in certain maps is spawnareakilling like targeting the area where they spawn or near it like in Domeofdeath for example they all target the weapon locker behind the power core but thats because there idiots and when iam on the losing team of it iam usually 20+ points ahead of my closest teammate thats life I guess though
