yeah but it doesnt fully work.
This was written by Just**Me after a discussion with TNSe
It explains in fairly good detail what the s3fix does and why it needs to.
Quote: | UT First started with ver400. Epic quickly releases ver405 to fix some bugs. In order to make versions network compatible they came up with Conforming. Conforming allows each version to communicate with one another even if packages are different. More on that later and how it can affect server performance. So as you can see in the 'tree' at ver428 epic released two versions. The problem (zombies) is that ver428 goty edition textures do not conform with ut428 Normal. So the replication gets all screwed up. Now onto 436, the tree gets worse. We now have three versions of 436. One ver436 Normal, ver436 Server Only, and ver436 Goty. Goty is still not conformed, s3fix attempts to do this and works on some clients and some not (this is a mystery).
So how does this affect servers and clients? If a server has GOTY disc two installed or Server Only it will greatly affect the servers CPU usage. This is due to server <--> client communications with conforming. The server/client has to decide what information to process and what should get left out because the server client are not using the same version, and in the case of 436 goty servers with disc 2 installed to quote "GOTY editions servers probably suck more than russian nuclear vacuum cleaners". Best case scenario is, a server that has installed normal 436 (patched up with UTPG). This way they server is conformed to all clients and will greatly reduce cpu usage compared to the other two 436 versions. This does of course screw 436 goty editon 2nd disc users who cannot use s3fix. Or you manually conform with ucc all your textures to comply with the server. This is also an explanation for clients warping, shots not registering, bad server performance, etc. Not the only reason mind you but a very good start. With confoming some data gets left out or some gets made up, depends on the situation. |

but I dont use them anymore, too many servers still had the 'zombie' effect
they did look good though
